On behalf of the Organizing Committee for this 16th International Conference on Coastal Engineering, it is my special privilege as its Chairman to welcome you all very heartily here in the Congress-Center Hamburg to inaugurate a week of lectures and discussions on the manifold problems of Coastal Engineering.
