The meeting was held in the Society's new rooms at the Royal Institute ahead of the re-opening of the Museum to the public. The retiring Vice-President Cosmo Innes gave a talk on his research into the geography of 10th century Scotland and the challenges he faced conducting this research. He aslo congratulated the Society on its new rooms, the successful campaign to change the operation of the Treasure Trove in Scotland, and all the contributions made by Fellows of the Society to the study of archaeology and history in Scotland.
A special meeting and Conversazione was held to officially celebrate the opening of the Society's new rooms on 23 December 1859.
