This article discusses the ditch known as the Catrail that runs from near Galashiels to near Peelfell on the borders of Northumberland. The author explains various interpretations of the Catrail's etymology, origins and purpose. He concludes that the ditch was built to serve as a boundary line but argues that there is not enough evidence to say with certainty who built it.
