An examination of the work of notaries and the difficulties in collating all the Protocol Books created by individuals across the country. The article contains lists of the locations where collections of Protocol Books can be found, the possible uses of these resources, some information about some of the notaries that wrote them and some illustrative quotes from the books themselves.
The author also proposed that a letter be written to the Lord Clerk-Register suggesting that he acquire as many Protocol Books for the General Register House as possible, which the Fellows agreed to.
