This article covers the migration of populations into and out of Scotland after the end of the British Roman period and into the medieval. The author covers Pictish, Scots, Saxon, Scandinavian and British mass migrations. He then moves on to a discussion of generalised physical characteristics that he associates with different areas of Scotland. He bases these generalisations on his own observations of people in these areas, as well as written evidence from Roman and early medieval sources.
