An ulcer is a breach in the continuity of epithelium of mucous membrane and skin when an inflamed necrotic tissue sloughs out. Ulcers are caused by various medical conditions. The key to treatment is daily conventional dressing till the formation of healthy granulation tissue, infection control by antibiotics and surgical intervention such as debridement, and if the need arises, amputations. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) uses autologous plasma containing growth factors that helps in wound healing. PRP is being used extensively and is under research for wound treatment.
