In April and August 1985 and February and May 1986, the taxocoenosis of copepods in the lagoon complex of Magdalena-Almejas Bay was similar to that found in other lagoon environments, where the planktonic community is characterized by pronounced dominance of the species belonging to the genus Acartia. The dominant species throughout the study period were A. clausi and A. lilljeborgii. The structure of the taxocoenosis presents a cyclic variation pattern, closely related to temporal changes in the environment. With regard to spatial distribution, a differential influence of outside waters was observed, with oceanic and neritic species predominating in the area adjacent to the mouths of Magdalena Bay and Almejas Bay, and species of the genus Acartia and others characteristic of confined environments predominating in the inner parts.
