Violence between courting couples is a central theme in many research works. In this particular study we analysed the perception of violence within courtship between university students. One of the most important findings was that psychological and emotional violence – consisting in controlling the other person and using nicknames to humiliate him/her – was the most common. Both sexes agree that both men and women may be the aggressors or the victims of this kind of violence
