Atypical clinical manifestations have been observed in newborns and infants suffering from fever caused by the chikungunya virus. Objective: To describe the cases of fever caused by the chikungunya virus in newborns and infants with atypical mucocutaneous lesions. Materials and methods: We reviewed the clinical records, as well as lab tests and histopathological results, of newborns and infants diagnosed with Chikungunya virus and atypical mucocutaneous lesions in three regional hospitals. Results: Out of 18 suspected cases of chikungunya virus in newborns and infants, 11 were positive and presented atypical mucocutaneous manifestations. Six of the eleven confirmed cases corresponded to children under five months of age. The most common symptoms were fever, skin rash, irritability, and diarrhea. Three of the patients were infected with both dengue and chikungunya viruses. The ulcers occurred in the scalp, abdomen, genital and perianal region.
