This article discusses how children's own statements about being a child can contribute to new knowledge about children. Interpretation of the statements relates to the context and the sensuous close the meeting. With hermeneutic gaze of science I seek ways to interpret the child's living word. The background is a qualitative study of interviews with kindergarten children about their thoughts and experiences of being a child. In the research process converts these living words into stiffened text and undergoes a process of interpretation. As a companion to such a process meaningful knowledge can be created.
