We investigate the growing process and topological features of the short message networks (SMN). Simulations show that the networks' degree distributionaverage degree and the correlation between the node's degree and its time in the network are different from those of the former networks models. With due consideration of some of the characteristics of the SMN, we suggest a new type of network growing protocol, namely the local-preference connecting protocol. The numerical results show that the networks generated from our model are more representative in simulating real networks represented by SMN when compared with other network models.
