Cerium_doped lutetium pyrosilicateCe:LPScrystal was grown by Czochralski met hod. X_ray diffraction analysis showed that the structure of Ce:LPS crystal was monoclinic with space group of C2/m. Cleavage (110) of the crystal was obse rved by optical microscope. Optical absorption, excitation and emission spectra of Ce:LPS crystal were measured at room temperature. Results indicated that both absorption and excitation spectra of Ce:LPS showed two broad bands peaking at 3 02 and 349 nm, assigned to the Ce3+ 4f1→5d1 tr ansitions. The Gaussian fits to the emission spectra excited at 349 nm, showed band characteri stics with two peaks at 384 and 407 nm, in which the latter intensity was highe r than the former.
