This article examines the constitution of subjectivities in young people, focusing on two key aspects in the formation of personal identity and in the construction of an individual’s life project: family and work. Based on a survey of university students (N=524) from the Maule region (Chile), it explores some of the most notable changes in young people’s representations of family projects and their relation to paid work. This led us to conclude that due to diversification in the form of the family and destructuring in the organization of paid work, young people, both male and female, are redefining the workplace and the family in their vital projects, and questioning traditional gender roles as well
