Open AccessThe aim of present work was to investigate the pharmacognostical and phytochemical properties of Phyllanthus amarus leaves. The Ethno medicine involves the use of different plant extracts or the bioactive constituents of vital importance in the health application at an affordable cost and study of such ethanomedicine keenly represents one of the best avenues in searching new economic plants for medicine. Keeping this view in mind the present investigation was carried in Phyllanthus amarus leaves. Morphological study and pharmacognostical properties like transverse section, palisade ratio, stomatal number, stomatal index, vein islet number, and vein termination number were studied. Physical constants like ash value, extractive value, moisture content, swelling index was also studied. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of the plants confirms the presence of various phytochemicals like carbohydrates, alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, saponins, tannins, phenols and flavanoids.
