
Pathological obesity a skin diseases. Comparison of the effect of obesity surgical treatment with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on the treatment of dermatological diseases

Background: Obesity is a worldwide major public health problem with an alarmingly increasing prevalence over the past 2 decades. The consequences of obesity in the skin are underestimated. In this article, we present a comparison of the effect of surgical treatment of obesity using the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on the treatment of dermatological diseases. Materials and Methods: Two study groups were included in the analysis. Study group 40 patients with BMI over 34.9 and control group 40 patients. Results: In both analyzed groups, the following was found: eczema of the lower legs, eczema and folliculitis. All operated persons lost an average of 16% of body weight in the first 3 months. After another 3 months, another 14% of body weight Conclusions: Patients in the Study Group responded to treatment better than patients in the Control Group. Obesity causes changes in skin physiology that predispose obese people to develop a variety of skin symptoms and diseases.
