La intratraducción de obras de Aléxandros Papadiamandis: la cuestión lingüística

Aléxandros Papadiamandis (1851-1911), considerat el millor prosista grec del seu temps, va escriure sobretot relats curts, i algunes novel·les, de les quals la més coneguda és Ἡ φόνισσα (L’assassina). Les seues obres estan escrites en la modalitat lingüística anomenada καθαρεύουσα, “purista”, artificialment culta i arcaïtzant, pròpia de la prosa de l’època, per oposició a la δημοτική, demòtica, que finalment s’ha imposat a tots els nivells; l’enfrontament entre els defensors d’aquests models de llengua rep el nom de γλωσσικό ζήτημα, “qüestió lingüística”; la polèmica que ha acompanyat al llarg de les darreres dècades la intratraducció d’algunes de les obres de Papadiamandis al grec demòtic pot considerar-se’n una seqüela. El present article pretèn exposar tota aquesta situació i les motivacions i criteris per a l’esmentada intratraducció.Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851-1911), considered the best Greek writer of his time, wrote mainly short stories and some novels, among which the best known is Ἡ φόνισσα (The Murderess). His works are written in the form of Modern Greek called καθαρεύουσα, “purist”, artificially cultured and archaic, typical of the prose in that time, as opposed to δημοτική, demotic, which eventually prevailed at all levels; the confrontation between the advocates of these language forms is called γλωσσικό ζήτημα, “Greek language question”; the controversy that accompanied the intratranslation of some Papadiamandis’ works to demotic Greek, made along the last decades, can be seen as a sequel of this «language question». This paper aims to explain this whole situation, and the motivations and criteria for such intratranslation
