The traditional definition of journalism is based on a logic of transmission, where information moves from A to B, as well as the purpose of journalism, e.g. making people more informed. In the article it is argued that such an understanding is problematic when viewed from the perspective of social constructivism, not least because the traditional definition is blind to a number of important modern-day developments. We argue that it is possible to define journalism along social constructivist lines, thus widening the analytical horizon, without loosing the ability to distinguish between what is and what is not journalism.
