The concept of health summarizes a series of meanings implying different, culture specific understandings of body, individual, and the organization of society. These different ‘health cultures’ also imply recommendations of different ‘health promoting practices’, not least different ideas of the most health promoting way to move the body.Taking its starting point in four different teaching resources for the Danish Primary school since 1975, this article presents four different health cultures and their recommendations for movement as a health-promoting practice. The four patters function as both cultural historical observations of health in a educational context and as a challenge of the connection between health and movement we meet today.
