Aim. The culture of buckwheat is traditional for our country. A number of economic and social factors of the last decades caused a significant decrease of its production that led to decrease an internal consumption and export potential losses. One of the possible ways to solve this problem is expanding the range of varietal spectrum of buckwheat culture at the expense of genotypes oriented on summer (stubble) sowing with the development of appropriate cultivation technologies. The prerequisites for this are the steady tendencies to the warming climate in the traditional areas of buck-wheat cultivation. Methods. The data of buckwheat samples collection environmental testing in the northern east forest-steppe (NEFS) of Ukraine conditions has been analyzed by statistical processing analyses. Results. The general plan of works envisaged the research of the buckwheat samples collection under the analyzing background conditions, the selection of group and individual characteristics of the different genotypes by response to photoperiod; the previous evaluation of the selection directions and the effectiveness of it. Conclusions. The analysis of the growing season conditions dynamics, the interphase periods length and plants productivity of the spring and summer sowing indicates the advisability of the separate plant breeding program for creating the varietal technology for summer crops cultivation for NEFS area.
