The label «historieta realista», in Spanish, is used to define a section of the field of production of comics. This paper analyzes to what style of drawing does the term «realistic» apply, and addresses the historical background of this style and the possibility that a comic may be a «realist text». It examines how the «realistic drawing» poses a tension between cartoon and photography
