La formación de los médicos especialistas en España

Se presenta un bosquejo histórico del proceso de formación de médicos especialistas en España: el llamado sistema MIR, un sistema supervisado y remunerado de adquisición de las competencias. No fue hasta finales de los años 70 del pasado siglo cuando se inició un desarrollo extraordinario del sistema de residencia en todo el país, que llega a ser exclusivo. Hasta entonces la consecución y el ejercicio de una especialidad médica carecían, por lo general, de garantías. Hoy hay una estructura hospitalaria acreditada y sólida para la formación de especialistas médicos (que se ha ampliado a otras profesiones sanitarias) y una normativa reguladora de los órganos docentes que garantiza estrictamente el proceso.
