In the past decade great advances were made in the field of autoimmune encephalitis. Several new antibodies targeting membrane and synaptic antigens were discovered. Tis discovery helped to elucidate the mechanism of many potentially lethal but treatment-responsive forms of acute encephalitis. In this review we present the field of autoimmune encephalitis caused by antibodies to membrane and synaptic antigens. We also present the clinical picture associated with specific antibody
