Cross connections can happen at any time. Infrastructure, the buildings it supports, and the community can all be adversely affected by cross connections. Cross‐connection incidents observed by the city of Winnipeg demonstrate owners' responsibilities in ensuring their properties comply with codes and bylaws. Backflow prevention programs should be in place and followed to maintain a safe, proactive approach in protecting individuals and the water distribution system.
