Approximately two years ago, City of Grand Forks (N.D.) Water Utility personnel decided to find a better way to blend data from their supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), inventory, and bench‐testing systems. Operators were handwriting data in logs to pass information among shift operators whose schedules rarely intersected and to produce regulatory compliance reports. Some of the material was difficult to read, and the large amount of paper in the binders made it difficult to search for and find particular information.
