Differentiation of human embryonic stem cells was induced in conditions that allowed formation of neural and non‐neural ectoderm and to a lesser extent mesoderm. A combination of surface markers was found that allows the isolation by fluorescence‐activated cell sorting of multiple cell populations with lens forming ability, and c‐Met/HGFR was identified as a principal marker for early detection of lens epithelium.
