Open AccessEl dos de octubre de 1902 Alfonso XIII inauguraba el que puede considerarse el primer Hotel de la capital: el Hotel Ritz de Madrid. Con él se abría un nuevo camino en lo que al concepto del turismo se refiere, contribuyendo poderosamente a la modernización de la metrópoli y situándola un poco más cerca de las capitales europeas más prestigiosas. El establecimiento del Hotel en el Paseo del Prado, junto a los Jerónimos, va a contribuir a dinamizar más aún la zona, pero a su vez se hace eco y recoge la trayectoria lúdica que desde tiempos pasados ha venido caracterizándola, con el asentamiento estival de un buen número de establecimientos dedicados al ocio y el espectáculo, entre los que destacan los Jardines del Tívoli, convertidos posteriormente en el Real Establecimiento Tipográfico regentado por José Madrazo y situados justo en el lugar que ocupará el Ritz.
On October 1902 Alfonso XIII inaugurated which can be considered the first hotel in the capital city: the Ritz Hotel in Madrid. The hotel lays a new path in terms of tourism, contributing greatly to the modernization of the metropolis. It situates the city a little closer to the most prestigious European capitals. The location of the Hotel on the Paseo del Prado, next to the Jeronimos, contributes to further revitalize the area, and at the same time it echoes and reflects the playful atmosphere that has been characterized it since many years ago, with the summer settlement of many businesses dedicated to leisure and entertainment. Among them, the Tivoli Gardens, later transformed in the Royal Printing House run by José Madrazo and located right there, in the place where the Ritz would be constructed.
