Open AccessResumen La emperatriz Isabel de Portugal fue gobernadora de los reinos españoles durante varias ausencias de Carlos V entre los años 1528 y 1538. La esposa del César se guió con las instrucciones de su marido y contó con el apoyo de los mejores consejeros de la época. Isabel actuó con gran eficacia y determinación, a veces con éxito y otras con menos fortuna. Su implicación en el Gobierno fue más allá de la ayuda y dejó su impronta particular en asuntos internos, en la organización de las Indias y en la defensa de los reinos, así como su visión sobre la política imperial.
Abstract The empress Isabel of Portugal was Governor of the Spanish kingdoms during several absences of Carlos V between 1528 and 1538. The wife of the Caesar was guided with instructions from her husband and had the support of the best advisers of the time. Isabel acted with great efficiency and determination, sometimes with success and others less fortunate. Her involvement in Government was beyond help and left a particular mark in internal affairs, in the organization of the Indies and in the defense of the kingdoms, as well as her view on the imperial policy.
