Open AccessEn este trabajo se analizan diferentes tipos de rituales y símbolos que desempeñaron un importante papel, como instrumentos de comunicación de determinados mensajes, en las relaciones y conflictos sociales del clero burgalés durante la baja Edad Media, prestándose una especial atención a cuestiones como, entre otras, los juramentos, el ritual de excomunión, la celebración de procesiones, los actos de perdón y penitencia, la defensa de la honra y el bien común, el orden de preeminencia entre los miembros del clero catedralicio y la defensa del privilegio de exención diocesana frente a la jurisdicción metropolitana.
In this article different kinds of rituals and symbols are studied because they played an important role as instruments of communication of a certain kind of messages, in the social relationship and conflicts of the clergy of Burgos through the late Middle Ages. Some matters analyzed with special attention are the oaths, the rites of excommunication, the processions, the actions of remission and penance, the defence of honour and the common good, the pre-eminence order amongst the members of the cathedral clergy and the defence of the privilege of diocesan exemption from the metropolitan jurisdiction.
