The Safe Drinking Water Act requires the US Environmental Protection Agency to go through a rigorous process to identify a new contaminant for regulation and then develop a national drinking water regulation. And that's a good thing ‐ nobody wants a regulation that is not based on the best available science. But how should we balance a robust and rigorous regulatory development process with a need to be nimble and agile in order to respond appropriately to new and emerging issues that are important to the drinking water community?
