Energy efficiency is an important aspect of sustainability for water systems over the long‐term while also offering the possibility of more immediate gains. Energy represents the largest controllable cost of providing water or wastewater services to the public. Because utilities have many costs that are fixed, water and wastewater utilities are considering energy management alternatives when looking at ways to reduce their bottom line.
