essay situates in historical and cultural terms the Desengano Park, a Conservation Unit that protects important native ecosystems. The author also describes transformed and anthropized ecosystems located near and inside the CU, relating in a touching mood the saga of local native people, whose relationship with nature has been changed since colonialist life style was installed in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, thus suffering from a process of continuous destruction. The importance of the area regarding water resources in the Imbé/Ururaí/Lagoa Feia system is evidenced by images taken by the author, who also registered the negative impacts that have affected the CU in the last decades.
