Cities are the center of population aggregation and human economic activities. They are important drivers of economic and social development, and are also a basic element in creating a country’s competitiveness. Building sustainable cities and promoting the region’s economic prosperity is a fundamental goal of local governments. As economic development gradually becomes driven by knowledge and innovation, the economic functions of key cities also transform to become a gathering place for resources—such as knowledge and technology—and playing the role of knowledge proliferation. This then leads to the concurrent development of the surrounding areas. Therefore, connecting innovation and urban development and creating sustainable and innovation-orientated cities has become a major development focus for international cities
