In this paper, we propose a novel remote user\udauthentication protocol with session key agreement, using\udthe mechanism of one-dimensional second order cellular\udautomata. The scheme use simple and elementary\udoperations to handle the problem of mutual authentication\udbetween two communicating parties, and enable the\udsharing of a common secure session key. Security of the\udproposed scheme is shown to be high, while it resist most\udcommon attacks on authentications schemes. Besides,\udruntime performances of the authentication protocol are\udvery competitive, and outperform those of existing\udsimilar schemes. The proposed schemes ensure the three\udauthentication requirements, namely the mutuality, the\udauthenticity and the key agreement using only elementary\udand parallelizable operations, without requiring any\udaddition cryptographic function
