The current article searches to perform an analysis on the origin and evolution of citizenship. For tihs, it tries to broach the beginning of citizenship in the Greek-Roman societies emphasizing the political dimension. It analyzes the difficulties for the existence of citizenship in the Middle Age, in function of the social conditions, as well as for the remarkable belief in the catholic religion. It investigates the reasons on which the concept of citizenship is retaken in the Renaissance period and, at last, it performs some considerations about citizenship on the contemporany society from the impact of globalization process
