Due to the presence of high organic load and hydrocyanic acid, manipueira, the effluent from cassava production, requires appropriatetreatment before being discharge into the environment. This study aimed tocharacterize the manipueira of a flour producing industry and present possibletreatment systems for its degradation. The manipueira characterizationoccurred by the parameters of pH, turbidity, chemical and, biochemical oxygendemand, total solids, total fixed solids, total volatile solids and cyanide. Allparameters evaluated were high and above the limits allowed by thelegislation, evidencing the need for its treatment. From the survey of biologicaland physical-chemical treatments s, it is emphasized that the choice of themost appropriate combination will depend mainly on the characteristics of themanipueira generated, the costs and the efficiencies process, and the legalfactors.
