- Long ago, around 4000 BC , there was already the number\udπ , but not as we know it today. It is noteworthy that the first\udmathematician to use the number "pi" as the Greek letter π was the\udFrench mathematician Leonhard Euler ( 1707-1783 ) . As old as the π\udvalue is the celebrated Greek problem of squaring the circle , ie using\udruler and compass to construct a square equal to the area of a given\udcircle. To address this issue , we will use the idea of transcendental\udnumbers and especially the fact that π is a transcendental number ,\udmeaning it can not be the root of an algebraic equation with integer\udcoefficients , a fact proved by the German mathematician Ferdinand\udvon Lindemann in 1882 thus show that it is impossible to solve such a\udproblem
