The uterine involution is the main physiological process during the puerperal period. This processis marked by changes that occur in the female's uterus after parturition, leading the uterus torecover the changes that occurred during the period of pregnancy, to finally achieve volume, size, position and recovery of the reproductive capacity for a future pregnancy. The uterine involutionincludes a complex series of events that include myometrial contractions, endometrial repair andreduced blood flow. Factors such as dystocia, retained placenta and number of deliveries caninfluence the duration of the involution process.
