Singapore is a densely populated citystate of 5.7 million and a global travel hub. These characteristics make it particularly susceptible to the importation of communicable diseases and consequent outbreaks. The 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak challenged the nation’s public health system and now the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) pandemic is presenting a greater challenge.
