This is the first time in mory that an alcohol taxation measure has been informed principally by public health concerns, even though it has not been universally seen as such. Regardless of the outcome of the Senate vote, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) argues that a broader review of alcohol taxation policy is needed as part of a comprehensive approach to alcohol-related problems in Australia.
