LGV was previously con-fined to endemic areas in tropical regions — principally Africa,India and northern South America. However, since 2003, LGV hasemerged as an increasingly important infection worldwide, withoutbreaks occurring in communities of men who have sex withmen (MSM) in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany,Sweden, the United Kingdom and North America.
