Decisions about your health care are important — including decisions about the types of therapy to use. Most health care providers will agree that using complementary (also called alternative or integrative) therapies together with standard medicines can help people living with HIV live longer, healthier lives. Most often, people living with HIV use complementary therapies to ease side effects [3] of HIV drugs, boost their immune systems, or improve their overall health.
