fracture. When occult fractured neck of femur or pelvic fracture is suspected and standard hip radiographs are normal, angled up views of the pubic rami and oblique views of the pelvis will improve detection of pelvic fractures, but not all such fractures will be demonstrated on plain film. In emergency departments with access to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) , an immediate single-sequence study would be expected to reliably detect a fractured pelvis or radiographically occult fractured neck of femur. Bone scintigraphy will reliably detect such fractures when performed 24-48 hours after trauma and, as pointed out in our article, will minimise the risk of inappropriate management of elderly patients after a fall.
