In the 4 January 1999 issue of the Journal, we published an article that criticised the current system of ethical review of research in this country. In this issue, Pearn (page 38) replies from the perspective of a chairman of an ethics committee, and correspondents (below), including the Chairman of the Australian Health Ethics Committee, point out that some reform processes are already under way.
