Fifty‐six adult female mosquitoes of the species Anopheles farauti sensu stricto ‐ the arthropod vector for malaria ‐ were collected from Mackay, central Queensland, at latitude 21°09'S, between August 1996 and August 1997. This is the southernmost record of this species, and may indicate that the malaria‐receptive zone in Queensland needs to be expanded.
