The distinctive malignancies of HIV disease arise from immunodeficiency, aberrant cytokine production and activation of oncogenic viruses. As management of other aspects of HIV disease improves, malignancy will become increasingly common in HIV‐infected people. Unless our understanding of pathogenesis leads to new treatments, malignancy will be one of the crucial limits on their survival.
