Advantages such as providing an accessible pr ofessional telephone cons ultslion service after hours, central coord ination of service provision , red uction in demand on pra ct itioner s (part icularly rural pr actitioners) who arc forced , or cho ose, 10 remain "on call", and a probable reduction in the nu mb er of pra ctitioners needed to undertake after-hour s visits, are obvious.
