"Figures for the estimated resident population at risk were calculated from Kosky's "suicide plus undetermined death" raw data (number of cases [N]) and incidence rates (R)with N/R x 100 000. These figures were very similar to those that were obtained independently from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. None of the matched values in the two sets of data differed by more than 0.74%. All raw data for numbers of deaths are shown in parentheses, and were obtained from Kosky's paper.' The 1968-1970 and 1974-1976 suicide rates that are shown here are different from those that were reported by Kosky, but the above values were derived with an estimate of the at-risk population and with Ns of 126 and no, respectively.
