After reports of excessive occurrence, cancer incidence and mortality for the years from 1974 to 1978 were investigated by means of the New South Wales Central Cancer Registry and a special survey. Although the number of cases of four cancers—cancer of the pancreas, malignant melanoma, multiple myeloma, and myeloid leukaemia—was greater than expected in males, chance occurrence cannot be excluded. No local clustering or any clue as to an environmental exposure was found.
