Reversible renal failure occurred in two patients during concurrent administration of a beta‐adrenergic receptor blocking drug and non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs. Both patients had previously been noted to have mild impairment of renal function. This combination of drugs, often coincidentally prescribed for patients with painful musculoskeletal syndromes and ischaemic heart disease or hypertension, appeared to be responsible for acute deterioration in renal function in one patient and a more insidious deterioration in the other. Both patients were also taking digoxin and, in Patient 1, the iatrogenic illness was complicated by digoxin toxicity.
