The value of computerised tomography (CT) in diagnosing of lumbar spine disease was assessed. In this paper, the results are analysed in detail and compared with myélographie and discographie findings in disc lesions, postoperative cases and spinal stenosis. They indicate a satisfactory correlation in cases of intraspinal soft‐tissue and bony changes, but call for caution in overinterpretation of disc disorders. The clinical and medico‐legal implications are discussed.
